When I logged in the first 12 threads were meet and greets. I try and answer each one, but out of the 12 maybe only 2 will stick around, so whats the point?
I kinda wondered the same thing after my first month of being here, but then I remembered just how cool it was to be able to introduce myself here and then immediately get greeted by the forum regulars.
I feel that the Meet and Greet section makes the forums seem that much more welcoming to newcomers, and allows the forum regulars to have the opportunity to get to know new folks who may or may not have similar interests.
I'm kinda dopey though, because I find myself constantly watching the M&G forums with the hopes of finding at least *one* other Oklahoman to chat with that posts here. I know I'm not the only Okie that watches Deadliest Catch, but it would be nice to be able to find others that post here.
You don't have to reply to anything you don't want to.
It's nice to get to know people and having this info in their own thread is also convenient. Also some people tend to lurk and are afraid to "jump in" especially if they see some members talking back and forth in thread.
It can be overwhelming, however, I know how much I appreciated being welcomed when I first joined. If you don't want to read through all of them and don't want them in your new posts. Click on the forum (in this case Meet and Greet) then click on Forum Tools and "Mark this Forum Read"....it will immediatly mark everything in that forum read and won't show up in your new posts....until more people make new posts there again. Repeat.
I hate that I do it, but I just dont read the M&G section due to the amount of posts and the little amount of time I have to read the board these days.

Me too.
I think that if the newbies decide to stay on....then we notice them and remember them. The more involved, the more we'll meet and greet later...in our own little ways, if that makes sense.
