One board I post at limits threads to 500 pages. It is just known and accepted that it'll be locked at 500 and we have to start a new one. It began as a thread titled "The Longest Thread Ever" where we could post anything that popped into our minds and became a cultural phenomanon (in our tiny minds at least). Eventually it really did get too long and the 500 page limit was set.

Seriously though, it's probably better they are closed. Erin is right. They are either taking up too much room or causing too much traffic on the site. Not good in either case.

I am not that heart broken over it, to be honest it (and a couple others) could just evaporate. It is bordom posting and not something that we will read over again even if we are bored to tears (JMHO).

I agree, I opened these once and have never opened them again but people enjoy them so if there is a large group that wants them maybe we can compress them....because it's not all about me....even though the voices in my head tell me it should be.......

Those types of threads are very large and really don't contain any content related to the site. While it is off-topic, some more thought into an off-topic post is recommended.

I was really surprised those threads lasted that long. My other forum I belong to does not allow those types of threads (games) because it uses a lot of resources. Those mods always lock those thread and tell us to take it into chat! haha

That's a good idea. I just figured it was taking a lot of valuable resources from the site that would be better suited elsewhere.
