yet another east coaster.....

Hi I`m a lobster fisherman from Sou-West Nova Scotia CANADA .
I love DC and am a NW fan . I have a real respect for Matt for 'getting clean' and getting his site back aboard the NW , the show illustrates the lows he has gone through and what he has done to get where he is now.

Our lobster fishery ( the largest in North America ) begins it`s season on November 27th of this year and I hope to get some good video to post on the web. some of my videos and pictures from last year can be found at these sites....

this last one is a web forum much like this one. It has a Gallery with hundreds of fishing (tuna/lobster/groundfish/handline/sein) pictures both old and new. You may need to register to view them but they are worth the hassle.
The Hawk Road

Love the site, keep up the great work !

Re: yet another east coaster.....

very possible lol . Another GREAT link is EastCoastLobster.com >>>> By Fishermen - For Fishermen
It had been linked here in a previous thread and it is a great way to understand the fishery, as well as some of the similarities/differences between crab and lobster fishing

Re: yet another east coaster.....

Hi Johnny! Welcome aboard. Always look forward to seeing the Canadian "big boy" lobsters show up at the grocery store. The the local ones are good, but there is just something hedonistic about taking home one of those 9-10lb lobsters--and then realizing none of your pots are large enough to cook it. (Sorry gang-lobster is NOT outrageously priced here)

Re: yet another east coaster.....

a common misconception...bigger isn`t always better !!
Smaller lobsters tend to have more flavour and a softer meat than larger lobsters , not to mention that pound for pound , 5 -2 lb lobsters would provide more meat than 1- 10 lb lobster !

just a few more great links for those of you interested .

This video was shot by Patrick Sears during the opening of the 2005-2006 lobster fishery aboard the 45 ft vessle 'Tide N Knots' captained by Timothy Smith.

This video was also shot by Patrick Sears aboard of the 42 ft vessle Debutante II during the spring of 2005

and this next collage was put together by Brandon Blades, a local photographer. It features Billy Joel`s hit song 'downeaster Alexa' along with many photos taken by Blades of the beginning of the 2005-2006 season.
