Some info on the aqauvita for our american friends:
Aquavita means the water of life.
Rule nr.1 of aquavita is: drink it unmixed.
Aquavita or akevitt as we say is a drink made of potatos. This gives a clear drink, looks a bit like vodka. What makes the norwegian aquavite special is that we add spices to it. (The danish and swedish are clear) Those who destill it are acutualy the biggets consumers of spices in Norway .
Typical spices can be. vanilla, lemon, cardamom, cordiander and many more.
Some aquavitas are actualy put on a boat to Australia (!)The Linia aqauvitas can not ble classiefied aquavita before the havne been crosing the equator 2 times (Oslo-Sydney-Oslo) This is a tradition from 1840 when a ship left Norway headin for the far east. On board the had a barel of aquavita and when they arrieved they tasted is foun out that the sea had made wonders for the drink .
This a linnie aquavita whit a propper aquavita glass .
And remember to celebrate the aquavita day 13. april!
