The online portion of Plum Cove School Roots to Grow is now open. The auction will run from November 1, 2008 to November 14, 2008, with the live event taking place on November 15, 2008. Proceeds go to Plum Cove Parent Teacher Co-op in order to support our Plum Cove School community. Auction items range from one-of-a-kind pieces to donated items guaranteed to delight and surprise. So, tell your friends, family, community. Let the bidding begin!

Now is your chance to not only get all the great items you want, but to do it knowing you are helping support our organization and mission. With your support, the Plum Cove Parent Teacher Co-op can continue its mission to provide enrichment programs and materials that coordinate with the curriculum. The PTC also sponsors several social opportunities for our school community throughout the year. Unfortunately, economic conditons and budgetary constraints make it difficult for our schools to provide some of the basic educational tools and supplies - including new books for classrooms and libraries - that are necessary for our teachers and students. Funds raised from this auction will help to provide these “esential extras” which play an important role in making our school a special place for our children to learn and grow

The Coast Guard says a fish processing boat with 11 crew members on board is missingUPDATE

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Coast Guard says a fish processing boat with 11 crew members on board is missing off Alaska’s Aleutian Islands.

The agency received a distress signal just after 1 a.m. Wednesday from the 93-foot boat Katmai, which is home-ported in Seattle.

The military says all that searchers had found by noon Wednesday were two empty survival suits, a partially deflated life raft, and the emergency beacon registered to the Katmai. There were no signs of the boat or crew members.

The Katmai is owned by Katmai Fisheries Inc., based in Ballard, a company official told KOMO 4 News. The boat is based in Kodiak during the fishing season.

The Coast Guard said weather conditions were 35 mph winds with 10-15 foot seas and a rain/snow mix, limiting visibility to three miles.

The Katmai was headed toward an island in the Aleutian chain with a load of cod. The company says the crew is from all over the Northwest.

NEWPORT, OR, October 10, 2008 – Rogue Ales and Captain Sig Hansen of the Discovery Channel’s The Deadliest Catch have collaborated on the creation of Captain Sig’s Deadliest Ale. The partnership between Rogue and Captain Sig was spawned when Sig decided that his world class Alaskan King and Opelia crab needed a beer to complement and balance the strength and flavor of his catch.

The Deadliest Ale will be available in serigraphed 22oz. bottles that feature Captain Sig’s boat, the Northwestern. The crest on the boat symbolizes family, heritage, history and has 3 points that represent the three Hansen brothers. Captain Sig’s Deadliest Ale is India Pale Ale meets Red Ale that combines the traditional maltiness of a red ale with the hoppy profile of an IPA.

Captain Sig’s Deadliest Ale will be available in Alaska, Oregon, Washington, Northern California, Maine, Massachusetts, the Gulfs of Florida and Texas, Canada, and Norway.

A portion of the proceeds of Captain Sig’s Deadliest Ale will be given to the Fisherman’s Fund, a non-profit foundation established by the Hansen families that benefits various Northwest charities.

In celebration of Deadliest Ale, Rogue has added a Captain Sig hopoe to the currency of the Rogue Nation. Rogue Nation embassies in San Francisco, Portland, Eugene, Astoria, Newport, and Issaquah, Washington will be serving Captain Sig’s Northwestern Roast coffee.

Captain Sig’s Deadliest Ale is created using 9 ingredients: 2-Row Pale, Munich, Carastan, and Chocolate Malts; Amarillo and Cascade Hops; Pacman Yeast and Free Range Coastal Water.

Deadliest Catch Experience Auction of a Lifetime!

Captain Sig Hansen of the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch and Seattle’s Nordic Heritage Museum would like to announce a very special opportunity for fans of the acclaimed television series.

On September 21, 2008, the Nordic Heritage Museum will be holding their annual fundraiser, the Northern Lights Auktion, taking place at the Grand Hyatt Ballroom in downtown Seattle. A very exciting auction lot item has been donated by Captain Hansen to help support operations at the Museum.

One lucky bidder and one guest will have a chance to visit Dutch Harbor, Alaska, and spend some time with Sig and his crew! This once in a lifetime experience will include a short sightseeing trip around Dutch Harbor and the Island aboard the Northwestern. Later that evening, enjoy dinner with the crew at the Grand Aleutian Hotel’s Chart Room restaurant. In addition, here’s your chance to join the guys for drinks, meet the locals and perhaps some of the other fishermen from the show! This auction item also includes round-trip airfare for two from Seattle and two nights hotel at the Grand Aleutian in Dutch Harbor.

Captain Sig Hansen’s “Deadliest Catch Experience” was certainly one of the big highlights of the evening. Sig Hansen and his wife June attended the event and a great time was had by all! The “Deadliest Catch Experience” was sold on the auction block to Museum supporters Elling and Barbara Halvorsen for $8500!

Captain Sig Hansen has been invited to speak at Meydenbauer Yacht Club’s (MBYC) Champagne Brunch honoring members who have been with the club over 20 years and the club’s past commodores’. It’s recognition of those folks who have helped build one of the premier yacht clubs in the Grand 14 yacht clubs of Puget Sound. The Grand 14 are probably the oldest group of yacht clubs in the Puget Sound. They help bring you Opening day, support the Lighted Boats and the Special People’s Cruise at Christmas as well as other community events throughout the year. The clubs include Seattle Yacht Club, Tacoma Yacht Club and other clubs representing the major areas of Puget Sound, some with well over 100 years of history. While MBYC is a private club, as are all of the Grand 14, it welcomes sailors and power boaters who share a love of the water, good seamanship, and who care about their community. They are very excited to honor Sig as a great captain, and also to delight those they are honoring by his presence.
