What's the largest opilio pot you've ever pulled?

Sig: We fish a larger than average pot. They are 7ft wide by 8 ft tall and 36 inch high...most boats use 7 x7 foot...or 6x6 foot..you can go as gig as 8x8 under the new reg"s I think...we have had pots with over 1000 opilio average !!! they were completely stuffed and we had to dump them twice on the sorting table ,there was just too much for the table .we filled the boat in 2 days 220,000 lbs! lots of fun....

How many years have you had your Captains License?...

Sig: I've had the license for a few years now,its not mandatory ,we are under 200 gross tons .I hold a 1600 ton fishing licence, its good to have in case you ever end up in court with some b.s. lawsuit..A license is good to have but the reality is .it doesn't compensate for "experience" espesially on a crab boat!!

Does Norman really ride bulls?

Sig: He used to live in Yakima wash,we didnt stay in touch much at the time ,I was always gone fishing..Im guessing he got into it about 10 + years ago..

On the show it seems like your all smoking constantly. Is it due to the stress?

Edgar: No, its due to starting at the age of twelve. Having two parents that smoked non-stop took its toll.(i think) On board i smoke at least two packs a day, BUT i dont always smoke them down all the way, they get wet or your at the rail and the wind breaks them.Besides , its just something to do, like the coffee, we go through a can in two days, WHY? Because its there and readily available.

Some of us were chatting and we were wondering how fluent in Norwegian you and your brothers were?

Edgar: We learned Norwegian before we spoke English, we basically learned English at school and from friends. Sooo, VERY fluent.

During the baiting process in rough seas, is the pot just sitting on the launcher or is being held in place?

Edgar: No, if you look close, there are hydraulic "dogs" or hooks that pinch the pot from either side that hold the pot in the rack, some are made with air rams that freeze in the winter, when you see a pot come flying out of the rack, its usually because the dogs werent on.They can also crush a mans foot if he jumps up on the rack to get the hook or unhook the crane before the dogs are all the way on.They dont know your foot isnt the pot.

Does a crab or two ever escape the sorting table or hold and show up unexpectedly in some other part of the ship?

Edgar: Yah, we find em all over all day, its a pain in the rear pickin those things up all day, they get washed back in from the trough we throw them out in.We just found a few lodged under some deck boards when the boat got down, pretty stinky stuff, i almost gagged.

In Season 3, whatever happened to the Engine breakdown?

Edgar: All of our "Fuel Injectors" were toast. The engine was overhauled a year ago. and at the time of the show, we were due for a 10,000 hour tune up. Which include the replacement of injectors.Go figure they would go EXACTLY when they said they would.
