Sig Flies High Above

The Blue Angels are inspiring a lot of sky gazing, as the deafening roars of the jets buzz the city. Captain Sig Hansen, from popular television show “The Deadliest Catch,” was one of the lucky few invited to take flight with the precision flight team.

Forum Staff Party

The first thing I think of when I hear “VIP Party” is the glitz and glam of Hollywood; a private room, a personal waiter/waitress to bring you your personal potion, flat screen televisions, private pool tables and big, comfortable leather couches to party the night away with those guys you know, oh so very well…but only from television. As the music rocks in the background and we sit on the comfy couches, I am reminded that Adam (one of the managers from Jillians) really delivered this time – Karen brings us our drinks and soon we’re all sitting in a large circle with Sig, Norman, Edgar, Matt and Jake from the Northwestern. It’s all happening.
You’ve watched them season after season on the big screen, you’ve blogged, you’ve posted pictures and
countless threads with all of these people. It’s unreal, almost, to be sitting with all of the Moderators (except one) and you are reminded why it is such a great experience to put faces with names. Sig asks “So, what did you like least about this season?” and conversation takes off. There is laughing, flashes of photography as Matt dons his new apron, a few other gifts are given in exchange for a few cast autographs, but most importantly there is a good time being had by all. Remove a few screen names for the night and some computer monitors and what you are left with is an experience that will go down in the archives of the F/V Northwestern as one of the most enjoyable nights because of how the crew makes you feel and how unchanged they still seem with their own fame. How lucky for all of us to experience all the senses of VIP – from the setting to the company – it was truly a meaningful night.

Sig Hansen skippers the Northwestern on Discovery Channel’s hit reality series, World’s Deadliest Catch, which is the summer’s top cable hit. During the past two years, when not risking his life and that of his crew hunting for crab in the Bering Sea, he’s been working on a video game that simulates that experience.
